Tips for being more active each day

Are you looking to be more active in your day to day activities? Physical exercise is important for our health and wellbeing. It is recommended that adults get 150 minutes of physical activity each week to stay healthy and prevent diseases and health conditions. Here are some tips to help you incorporate active travel such as walking and cycling into your day to day routine.

  • Get off the bus or train stop early or park further away to walk the rest of your journey
  • …or cycle the rest of the journey (see here for information on cycle parking across Enfield and here for our Active Travel map)
  • …or swap your car or public transport journey to commuting by cycling (see here for tips from staff at Enfield Council who commute by bike)
  • Take the stairs
  • Encourage walking meetings around a park or around the block
  • Stretch at regular points throughout your workday
  • Switch to a standing desk
  • Take the scenic route (extend your journey for a bit of extra walking)
  • Walk or cycle to the shops
  • Take a leisure ride for a fun activity (see here for our group led cycle rides)
  • Track your steps and get to 10,000
  • Start an office exercise challenge
  • Go for a bike ride on your lunch break
